Houston Kids Film Academy
Houston Kids Film Academy is a creative education non-profit organization dedicated to empowering children and teens—especially those from minority and underserved communities—to find their voices through filmmaking, documentaries, and visual arts.
At HKFA, we believe every child has a story worth telling. Our programs provide hands-on training in filmmaking, storytelling, media literacy, and creative expression, giving young people the tools, confidence, and mentorship they need to share their perspectives with the world. Through age-appropriate, culturally responsive instruction, students learn how to transform their lived experiences into powerful visual narratives.
Houston Kids Film Academy offers workshops, camps, and in-school and community-based programs that teach directing, cinematography, editing, screenwriting, and documentary filmmaking. Beyond technical skills, our students develop critical thinking, collaboration, leadership, and self-advocacy—skills that extend far beyond the screen.
In a time when creative voices are increasingly marginalized, HKFA serves as a safe and supportive space where youth can explore identity, community, and social issues through art. By amplifying young voices and fostering media literacy, we help students become confident creators, thoughtful storytellers, and engaged citizens.
Houston Kids Film Academy is committed to equity in arts education and to ensuring that access to creative opportunities is not limited by zip code, income, or background. Our work strengthens communities by uplifting the next generation of filmmakers, artists, and change-makers—one story at a time.

Teen Filmmaking Workshops
Imagine being 14, full of thoughts and dreams, but unheard. Our Teen Filmmaking Workshops give minority and underserved youth the power to be seen, the courage to speak, and the tools to share their world. Every frame, every story, every voice matters.

Youth Special Events
Our Special Events give kids the chance to showcase their creativity, share their stories, and connect with peers through filmmaking, visual arts, and storytelling. From Kids' Nights Out, to film screenings, story labs, and our creative studio, HKFA events highlight young talent, inspire confidence, and empower the next generation of storytellers.

Camps
At HKFA Camps, kids and teens dive into the world of filmmaking, animation, and visual storytelling. From hands-on workshops to collaborative projects, campers learn to bring their ideas to life on screen while building confidence, creativity, and new friendships.
